Have you ever wondered what makes some people seem to be resilient and courageous overcomers and others live with an endless victim mentality? I have - most of my life.
Like many of you, I have overcome my share of tragedies and succeeded in accomplishing hard goals. I was abused at an early age. I was widowed as a 24 year old stay at home mother of a beautiful 8 month old baby girl. I have lost loved ones to long battles with cancer and in sudden, unexpected events. In all of that, I have gone on to graduate college (the first in my family!), obtain advanced degrees, achieve professional certifications, and create success in a career that I love.
Okay, so why does all of this matter? I have had people who know bits and pieces of my story say, "You are SO strong!" and it always made me a little uncomfortable. I am special but I am not that special. I looked at it as putting one foot in front of the other to do what had to be done. I was not going to let the past rule my future or barriers get in the way of my dreams. I showed up consistently, relied on my faith, built successful processes and cultivated supportive relationships.
I wish I had realized the power of coaching earlier than I did. After providing hundreds of hours of coaching to a wide spectrum of clients I have seen the power it has to affect the mindset and create clear vision for the journey. What I have learned is that we all have that strength inside of us to do incredible things, and we can all use help to see that strength, figure out our path, and build accountability in our steps to help ensure success.
This is why the name Fostering Fortitude is so near to my heart.
Fostering = To create or encourage the development of
Fortitude = courage, bravery, strength of mind, strength of character, moral strength, toughness of spirit, firmness of purpose, strong-mindedness, resilience
I love being part of the process to help others build self-awareness to move forward boldly against any challenge or in pursuit of any dream. There is nothing better than that moment when I am working with an individual or a team and they have the realization that the thing which only moments before felt impossible is actually available to them. Not only that, it was in them the whole time. If you are interested in seeing how we might be able to work on the vision for your journey, I would love to hear from you!
